Only your own imagination can limit the possibilities of a stencil! It is ubiquitous in industry, but its realm is — design. The main advantages – of the stencil are ease of use, reusability and versatility.
The advent of 3D printing has only increased the functionality of the device – the stencil has gained volume! Now it can be used not only to create individual elements (patterns, prints and inscriptions), but also to make independent products (accessories, toys, etc.)
How to create a cliché for a stencil?
In order to get a reusable stencil, you need 3d printing of a cliche for a stencil – a printing form that allows you to reproduce text and images by pressing (embossing) or embossing (embossing).
The creation of a cliché occurs in 2 stages:
- To create the foundation, you need programs that are designed for 3d design work:Adobe Illustrator, TinkerCad, Inkscape, but it is better to consult a 3d modeler. At the visualization stage, you will be able to examine the advantages and disadvantages and, if necessary, make adjustments. The quality and aesthetics of the product largely depends on a properly created digital model.
- After approval, the basis of the cliche is printed using a 3d printer. To date, there are many 3d printing technologies based on the method of layer-by-layer model building – you can read about it here.
In addition to it, you will also need tools that are difficult to find in the public domain: a roller for an inking machine, printing ink, organic glass, which will be needed to apply ink on a cliché, specialized paper and brushes. To do this, we recommend contacting a company that deals with 3D modeling and printing.
How to use a stencil?
Today, stencils areespecially popular with designers.Volumetric images in the interior place the necessary stylistic accents, and freedom of use allows you to emphasize the originality of the idea. Depending on the type of surface and the desired effect, the technique will differ.
The stencil can be used in the decoupage technique when creating original products. The easiest way is to fix the stencil with double-sided tape on the surface. Then, depending on the purpose, modeling paste or paint is applied with a brush or spatula. You can complicate the technique and distribute the material not evenly, but only in separate parts. In some cases, a film is used on which an image is laid out through a stencil. After the resulting pattern dries, it is transferred and fixed on the object.
As already mentioned above, a 3d stencil can be used in interior decor. The application technique remains the same – the main thing is to avoid haste in work. Often, a stencil cliché contains many small details, so it is better to entrust the drawing to professionals. To enhance the effect of the resulting pattern or pattern, you need to choose the right color and lighting. So you can not only “revive” the space, but also mask the flaws.
