Hair dryer history

The first head dryer appeared in Germany in 1900. The German manufacturer “Sanitas” presented to the public a seemingly strange design: it resembled a large watering can. A steel tube was attached to one side, and a wooden handle was on the other. Inside was an internal combustion engine. It heated a steel coil and a built-in propeller supplied the heated air through a tube.

While drying the hair, the hair dryer had to be kept at a distance of a meter from the head. Otherwise, there was a high risk of hair burning. It was not easy, because the weight of the device is more than two kilograms. But at that time the hairdryer was blowing out air, the temperature of which was about 90 ° C, it was necessary to observe safety precautions. Today hair dryers are lightweight, compact, affordable and safe.

Design of a modern hair dryer

It is simple and does not differ much from the first models by the principle of operation. The case is made of durable plastic, inside which there is a small fan and an electric motor. All heating elements are made of nichrome.

All internal parts are protected from overheating, but in case of emergency, the hair dryer can be suspended to avoid damage. The thermostat is responsible for temperature control. If the heating becomes critical, then the contacts are automatically opened and the air supply is stopped.

How the hair dryer works

At the back of the case there is a ventilation grill through which the fan receives and transforms the air flow. Air passes through the heating element and exits through the nozzle (nozzle).

Modern hair dryers can heat the air up to 60 degrees Celsius for the fastest drying possible. Almost all devices are equipped with air speed and temperature regulators.

Hair dryer production: how to create a case

The hair dryer is modeled according to the drawings. At the design stage, it is important to take into account not only the technical features, but also the ergonomics of the housing handle. All buttons and switches should be easily accessible for one-handed operation. An industrial designer will transfer the drawings to a 3D printer and you will see a volumetric model future device. After the model is approved by the customer, the 3D printer is used to produce prototype … If necessary, corrections are made to the 3D model of the hair dryer and a final prototype is made, which passes all the necessary tests for the quality of work and the ergonomics of the case. The final model turns into a massive metal mold through which the entire batch is cast.

Manufacturers and designers are tirelessly looking for an opportunity to offer consumers new, more sophisticated hairdryers. Many of them are far from understanding what a hair dryer should look like. Let’s take a look at the original models on the market today.

The model is interesting thanks to the ergonomic handle, which can be adjusted depending on the need. The handle can be flexed at a 90 ° angle, making it easier to dry hair, for example in the back of the head. The body of the hair dryer is black, the buttons and the handle, which are made in burgundy color, add bright accents.

This model has been designed in collaboration with Porsche. In addition to its unusual design, the hairdryer emits a sound during operation that resembles the roar of a car engine. In a monolithic case, only two colors were used: silver and red. There is one nozzle-concentrator fixed in the body.

The model of the hair dryer “Go On” is notable for its compact size. The case is only 9 cm long and weighs 110 grams. Despite its small size, the power is 500 watts. The model was originally created as a souvenir. The body is made of plastic and coated with a silver coating. The manufacturer offers several colors. The designers have approached the ventilation protective grill, which resembles an openwork fabric, in a non-standard way. The handle is practically absent, but you should not expect that the hairdryer will be used for its intended purpose.
