ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF 3D PRINTING WITH PHOTOPOLYMER
Advantages
- high accuracy compared to other printing methods;
- smooth surface of the product;
- the ability to create objects of high complexity.
disadvantages
- the need for post-processing of the product (before final hardening);
- limited choice of materials;
- the need to use supports for printing overhanging elements.
3D PRINTING WITH PHOTOPOLYMER: DESCRIPTION OF TECHNOLOGY
3D printing with photopolymer is the creation of a product by layer-by-layer solidification of liquid photopolymer. Depending on the technology used, solidification takes place by means of a laser emitter, LED projectors or UV lamps.
SLA printing (laser stereolithography)
The most widespread and affordable photopolymer printing technology is SLA. Prors with similar technology use laser emitter , which is point-directed to the desired areas of the material.
The photopolymer hardens layer by layer under the influence of radiation. The result is a unified design.
The main advantage of the technology is high printing accuracy and the ability to manufacture complex products … However, there are also disadvantages, for example, low speed.
DLP printing (projection stereolithography)
The technology is similar to SLA, only instead of a laser emitter they use LED projectors. Unlike SLA, the material is illuminated in whole layers, which increases the printing speed.
The main feature of such a printer is its cost is lower than the SLA, however, the printing accuracy is not so high either.
MJM and PolyJet (multi-jet printing)
In this technology, the material is applied using many nozzles and illuminated by ultraviolet lamps … At the time of applying the next layer, the previous one is already quite hard.
The main advantage of this technology is the ability to create products with different physical characteristics (use of different materials, colors, etc.)
THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRINTING WITH PHOTOPOLYMER: APPLICATIONS
3D printing in medicine
In medicine, high-precision 3D printing is used in many areas, first of all, it is dentistry … In addition, based on the scanned data, you can print an exact copy of the required organ.
This helps doctors to prepare more thoroughly for the operation and to assess all the risks. Also, 3D printing in medicine is used to create individual prostheses and medical equipment.
3D printing jewelry
The advantages of 3D printing with photopolymer when creating jewelry and various souvenirs are undeniable. Firstly, photopolymer 3D printing is much more accurate than any other.
And print geometrically complex decoration is not difficult … Secondly, the created decoration or souvenir will be individual and its appearance is limited only by the designer’s imagination.
Small parts printing for industry
The creation of small parts using 3D printing with photopolymer is the most suitable method for a one-off production. Because this method is one of the most accurate compared to other 3D printing methods.
Making master models
Photopolymer printing is also used to create master models. First, because of the accuracy already mentioned many times. Secondly, due to the fact that photopolymer is a more suitable material than ordinary plastic.
HIGH PRECISION 3D PRINTING: SCOPE OF WORK
- Preparing a 3D model. At the first stage, a 3D model of the future device is prepared in the required format.
- The choice of technology and the miscalculation of the cost. Depending on the features and purpose of the future device, the optimal technology is selected and the cost of 3D printing is calculated.
- 3D printing … The finished 3D model is loaded into the 3D printer and printing starts.
PRINTING WITH PHOTOPOLYMER: PRICE DEPENDS ON SUCH FACTORS
- Printing method. The method chosen depends on the characteristics of the product, quality requirements and the timing of the project. KLONA specialists will select the best printing method in terms of price and quality.
- Print time … Print time depends on the size of the product and the technology chosen. The longer the product is printed, the higher its final price.
- The need to do post-processing printed model. Post-processing can include sanding, painting and other necessary procedures.
If you need to print a high-quality and complex product – please contact KLONA. We know how to solve problems!
