FDM printing

The speed of printing from plastic on a 3D printer with FDM printing technology is 30 - 150 mm / s. The production time of the product itself depends on the need for preparatory work and their volume, as well as post-processing.

Why do you need FDM printing service?

FDM (Fused Deposition Method) printing is one of the common ways of 3D printing, under which layer-by-layer deposition of the molten material by the print head on the moving platform. Thanks to FDM printing technology, it is possible to create durable products with high precision.

FDM 3D printing is widely used in small batch production due to low cost of printing and consumables compared to other 3D printing methods. Therefore, such printers are popular both for industrial (3D printing of parts, cases, prototypes) and household needs (3D printing of toys, jewelry, accessories).

Manufacturing time of a plastic product by fdm printing

The printing speed of plastic on a 3D printer with FDM printing technology is 30 – 150 mm / s. The production time of the product itself depends on the need for preparatory work and their volume, as well as post-processing.

Making a small part can take from several tens of minutes to several hours , and large-sized, with subsequent processing – a few days.

STEPS OF PRINTING ON A 3D PRINTER WITH FDM TECHNOLOGY

Stage 1: preparing for plastic 3D printing

The work begins with the transfer of the finished 3D model to the printer. This requires simulate a future device and add supporting structures to it.

They are required for printing overhanging elements. The ability to use several types of materials during printing makes it easy to remove unnecessary structures at the stage of post-processing of the product.

Stage 2: printing from plastic on a 3D printer

FDM printers use different materials to form a product, primarily – thermoplastic … It comes in the form of large spools that unwind during printing and enter the extruder (the part of the print head that is responsible for dispensing plastic).

A heating element melts the plastic to the required temperature, after which the erection takes place – squeezing out the molten material and solidifying it on the platform. The print head is always at the same level and builds the model layer by layer, moving in a horizontal plane. As the layer is applied, the platform on which the product is located moves, dropping lower and lower.

Stage 3: post-processing of the product after 3D printing

The 3D printing service includes post-processing of the finished product. For example, using acetone, you can smooth surface irregularities. To remove the supporting structures, it is dipped into a special solution, which leaves only the product itself.

You can order 3D printing from plastic in the KLONA company. Here you will receive a full range of work on the manufacture of plastic products. We guarantee high quality products and attention to the needs of our customers.

WHAT DEPENDS THE QUALITY OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL FDM PRINTING

The quality of 3D FDM printing depends on on the size of the nozzle of the extruder. The narrower the hole, the better the detailing of the product can be achieved, as small drops of plastic are squeezed out. The optimal nozzle size is 0.4-0.5 mm.

Also, the quality of the product depends on the correct operating temperature. For different materials, there are different values of the optimal temperatures for heating the platform and the material in the print head. The selected temperature should ensure good adhesion of the first layer.

Modern models of 3D printers equipped with two or more extruders. This allows the product to be printed from one type of plastic, and the supporting structures from another, readily soluble polymer. By connecting three extruders with one nozzle, you can print full color products due to the fact that the plastic will mix even when heated.

TYPES OF THERMOPLASTICS FOR FDM 3D PRINTER PRINTER TECHNOLOGY

3D printing with ABS plastic

ABS plastic is made from petroleum and is an impact-resistant thermoplastic resin. It is an opaque plastic that can be painted in different colors. He possesses increased durability and retains its shape under strong mechanical stress.

It is also resistant to alkalis, acids, moisture and heat. Products made of ABS plastic must not be used in the food industry, as it can release the toxic substance hydrogen cyanide upon contact with hot food. Compared to PLA plastic, it more fragile and has a higher heat shrinkage. It doesn’t take long to process ABS plastic after 3D printing.

ABS plastic is used to make car bodies, large household appliances, batteries, plumbing fixtures, sports equipment, toys, musical instruments, office supplies, and more. dr.

We have at our disposal several 3D printers for printing ABS plastic. Especially for your product we will select the best printer , which will guarantee the best value for money.

PLA 3D printing

PLA is made from renewable resources such as corn or cane, which makes it biodegradable and considered an environmentally friendly plastic. It is more fragile and hygroscopic than ABS plastic.

The absence of toxins in the material allows you to make environmentally friendly packaging from it (for example, bags), as well as disposable tableware, personal hygiene products, and some medical supplies.

3D printing with HIPS plastic

Opaque plastic, with high strength and resistance to external influences (temperature changes, mechanical damage). It dissolves in limonene and is therefore often used to create support structures that can then be easily removed.

3D printing with PC-plastic

It is a solid polymer with high light transmittance and biological inertness … Due to this, it is used for the production of lenses, including contact lenses.

Contact KLONA for 3D printing with clear plastic. We we work with modern equipment and carefully select consumables. This guarantees high quality products and a long service life.

Laywoo-D3 3D Printing

It is a material that includes a binder polymer and wood particles. It is used to make products that resemble wood in texture and even repeat annual rings like real trees. Apply for the production of furniture parts or any other products, which should imitate a tree.

Laybrick 3D Printing

Another material to simulate, this time – sandstone texture … Raising the operating temperature results in a rougher surface.

3D printing PVA: PVAc and PVAl

Polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl alcohol have similar properties. They are hygroscopic materials that actively absorb moisture and dissolve well in water.

Nylon

This is very flexible and lightweight polymer, resistant to chemical attack. It is used to produce parts with low surface friction.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF FDM PRINTING TECHNOLOGY

Benefits of fdm printing

FDM custom printing has several advantages over other additive printing methods. Among them:

  • high accuracy of prototypes;
  • high printing speed compared to other 3D printing technologies;
  • a wide range of polymers used in printing, which allows you to implement different ideas;
  • relatively low cost of 3D printing with plastic.

In the KLONA company (3D printing in Ukraine) you can order FDM printing from 4 UAH / gram of plastic.

One of the advantages is also the ability to print with clear plastic on a 3D printer. This opens up the possibility of producing medical products, food containers and even transparent surfaces that imitate glass.

Disadvantages of FDM printing

When choosing a FDM printing method, you must take into account its disadvantages:

  • limited size of the printable area horizontally and vertically;
  • in some cases, it will be necessary to post-process the resulting product by chemical or physical methods;
  • limitation when creating products with large angles of inclination (this problem can be solved by creating the necessary supporting structures);
  • the need to take into account the heat shrinkage of some materials after the product has cooled down.

APPLICATIONS OF FDM PRINTING TECHNOLOGY

Rapid prototyping

FDM Custom 3D Printing finds its application in many areas. FDM 3D printer can be used to produce working prototypes for presentations – models (geographic, architectural), packaging, bottles, tools, parts, cases, etc.

The advantage of using FDM printing for prototyping is speed and clarity. Before launching into large-scale production, it is important to demonstrate to the customer how the product will look live and evaluate the texture, color design and ergonomics of the product.

An interesting property of such printers is self-replicating capability – another FDM printer can be printed on an FDM printer (with the exception of those parts that cannot be created using this technology). However, this property is rather used within the bounds of curiosity and does not allow reproducing exact copies of the original printers.

Domestic use: 3D printing figurines

FDM printing is often used in everyday life for receiving simple products. Due to the large base of ready-made 3D models, it is possible to print a toy, decoration, a broken TV part, a case for a remote control, etc.

So far, this method has not found mass distribution among Ukrainians due to the high cost of the printers themselves. Single-piece production of any plastic products or parts is provided by the KLONA company. Order 3D printing (Kiev) and please your child with a new puzzle or bring an old tool back to life.

3D printing in industry

The FDM printer can print plastic case for the device, parts of the mechanism and any other objects. In this case, the increased strength of products and the ability to print geometrically complex objects play an important role.

FDM printing in science

High print speed allows promptly create new devices and devices and immediately test them. The use of the same plastics, as in large-scale production, allows you to fully appreciate the functionality of the invention.

Models after the FDM printer are ideal for physical and chemical experiments due to their low cost.
