3D scanning – obtaining information about the geometry of an object in the form of a point cloud. With its help, you can create a 3D model (after finalizing the cloud). In the agency KLONA you can order scanning of a 3D object in Kiev with an accuracy of 0.1 mm.
3D SCANNING: SCANNER OPERATING PRINCIPLE
At the heart of the work of a 3D scanner is the principle of stereovision. Two cameras of the scanner determine the distance to the object, its size and shape. The design of the scanner includes a laser or a flash of a lamp. This helps to achieve maximum measurement accuracy. Images taken from two cameras and data on the surface of the object are transferred to a laptop.
Further, the information is processed, analyzed and displayed on the screen in the form of a point cloud. The cloud obtained as a result of scanning requires further refinement. To turn it into a 3D model, a professional 3D-modeler is working on it. Three-dimensional modeling allows you to create a model of an object of any complexity and configuration.
If you have scanned the text at least once, then you know that after it you have to recognize it. Only after this procedure can the text be used as a document in a specific format. Scanning an object is much more difficult. 3D scanning is best for items to be printed on a 3D printer. 3D scanning used in cases where it is extremely difficult to make measurements in order to build a model.
Company KLONA specializes in high-precision scanning of small-sized objects. Contact our manager right now (window in the lower right corner of the site) to order a 3D scanning service.
STAGES OF 3D OBJECT SCANNING
- Drawing up technical specifications. It clearly spells out all the working conditions and the expected result.
- Scanning an object and getting a point cloud.
- Building a solid model (a model that is ready for 3D printing) from a point cloud.
- Refinement of the 3D model (if necessary).
The cost of 3D scanning and 3D modeling in CLONE will be lower if you order these services together.
Further, if you need a piece production, the finished model is loaded into a 3D printer and printed. For a small batch (up to 300 pieces), you can create a silicone mold and mold the products into silicone. We wrote about the choice of technology for the production of plastic products in our article.
The KLONA company is engaged in the creation of exact copies of objects – three-dimensional models. If you have a finished 3D model that needs to be corrected, contact CLONE.
Methods for 3D scanning objects
Depending on the type of scanner, two methods are distinguished:
- contact 3D scanning;
- non-contact 3D scanning.
Contact 3D scanning of objects involves the presence of contact of the scanned object with the working surface of the scanner. This method is best suited for scanning oversized objects.
KLONA offers services for 3D scanning of parts and 3D object modeling. Our specialists will select and suggest the best scanning method.
ADVANTAGES OF CONTACT 3D SCANNING OF OBJECTS:
- ease of use;
- lack of dependence on the level of lighting;
- building a high-precision 3D model.
Non-contact 3D scanning does not involve the contact of the scanned object with the 3D scanner. This allows you to scan objects at a great distance and objects of large sizes. Non-contact 3D scanners also come in two flavors: active and passive. Active 3D scanners use the data obtained as a result of scanning an object with a laser beam to build a three-dimensional model. Passive 3D scanners use an already existing reflection of an object.
Advantages of non-contact 3D scanners:
- the use of structured light technology;
- the ability to scan objects at a great distance;
- lack of contact with the object, does not harm the object;
- scanning of large-sized objects.
It is worth noting that the price of 3D scanning of dimensional objects is much higher than modeling them from scratch. In addition, if you do not plan to 3D print the object, it is recommended that you choose another method.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF 3D SCANNING
Benefits of 3D scanning
- Cloud acquisition speed points.
- Most a suitable method for further printing a 3D model.
- Suitable for oversized objects complex geometries that are difficult to measure and model.
- High accuracy of the 3D scanner (0.1 mm).
- Fast export option the received information (point clouds) in CAD packages.
Disadvantages of 3D scanning
- When scanning large objects, it takes a lot of time to refine the cloud. The procedure is more expensive than 3D modeling from scratch.
- After 3D scanning the model needs to be finalized. Therefore, it is not recommended to use 3D scanning if the model needs to be cast in silicone. It is easier to make a silicone mold directly from the object, bypassing the 3D scanning step.
- Some surfaces ( black objects or shiny objects) it is necessary to cover with a special compound before the procedure.
High-precision 3D scanning: cost depends on such factors
- Scanned size object.
- Shape and complexity of geometry object.
- Granularity required from the 3D model.
- Physical characteristics of the surface scanned object (material, color, stiffness, wall thickness, presence of holes, etc.).
We scan everything except: large-sized objects, buildings and premises of people.
