3D glasses have recently appeared in the arsenal of home theaters, and they have already been replaced by virtual reality (VR) glasses. These interesting devices allow their owner to be transported to any other place, be it distant Thailand or the vastness of space. Let’s see how this is possible.

How VR glasses work

360 ° glasses provide a truly immersive experience and are compatible with smartphones, PCs and game consoles. It can also be supplemented with other elements such as motion sensors. Inside the VR glasses or helmet there are two lenses, onto which an adapted image is broadcast from an additional device. The glasses are equipped with a septum, so they transmit the image separately for each eye.

Spectators can ride the roller coaster using innovative glasses and a movable seat module.

There are also standalone models on the market that allow you to download computer games without resorting to synchronization with other gadgets. Industrial design studio KLONA will develop the optimal industrial design of VR glasses

VR glasses features:

  • play computer games with full immersion;
  • watch movies and videos on a computer;
  • view 3D photos;
  • travel in virtual reality.

Technical settings:

  • adjusting the eyepiece and adjusting the distance to the smartphone screen;
  • headphone support;
  • lens adjustment according to the distance between the pupils;
  • adjustment of the attachment on the head;
  • brightness and clarity adjustment.

Evolution of VR glasses:

  • first prototype. Despite the fact that VR glasses have entered our lives relatively recently, the first developments were carried out back in 1968 by the American scientist Ivan Sutherland. True, they were of poor quality. The design of the first glasses was very different from the modern ones: it was very bulky and was attached to the ceiling.
  • active development and loss of relevance. In the early 90s, the development of virtual glasses was considered potentially profitable. At that time, VR models were created for the SegaMegaDrive console. But closer to the two thousandth, development was suspended and briefly forgotten.
  • resumption of development. After a long pause in the development of VR glasses and helmets, in 2012 they started talking about their relevance again. The impetus was the development of engineers Carmack and Lucky. Lucky, an avid fan of VR products, created new VR glasses in 2011. Then Lucky, along with a business partner, developed the Oculus Rift glasses.

CLONE industrial design studio will develop a unique model of VR glasses.

1. VR helmet … The standard model is made of a plastic case, lenses, display, gyroscope and fixation straps. Such a helmet is put on the head and synchronized with a computer. The body contains lenses, behind which is the display, which is divided in two. You can find a helmet model that uses two displays. In order for the device to respond to head turns, a gyroscope and sensors that monitor head movements are integrated into it. The received data is transferred to the PC using USB or HDMI cables.

2. VR glasses for phone. In this case, the smartphone acts as a gyroscope and display. The glasses themselves consist of a body and lenses. You can find universal glasses suitable for all smartphones and tailored to specific brands.

Lenovo has developed a VR headset with its Mirage Solo. The device works without a smartphone. The ergonomic body of the VR glasses is like an extension of the head. Built-in sensors capture the slightest head movements. The body is made in black and white.

Features of the models:

  • support smartphones;
  • the phone affects the picture quality;
  • VRidge is compatible with games developed for VR headsets;
  • the phone is connected to the computer;
  • there is support for volumetric 3D video;
  • suitable for virtual reality applications.
Features of the models

Most glasses today support 4.5 to 6.4 inches smartphones. The diagonal in the range of 5-5.7 inches is considered the most suitable, with it a wider viewing angle and a stronger effect of total immersion. The optimal screen resolution is 2560×1440 and higher. Smartphone goggles such as the Gear VR track heading using a built-in gyroscope. The rotations are tracked along all three axes.

The virtual reality market offers models of a wide variety of designs and technical parameters. The glasses are presented in smooth or angular lines.

Prospects for the development of VR glasses

We can observe the rapid development of VR technology and related areas. At this stage, virtual reality glasses are not in very great demand for a number of reasons:

  • High price. Virtual reality glasses can not be found in every home because of the high price. Models that are suitable for gamers cost several hundred dollars.
  • Small list of games. Only new games are suitable for playing with glasses and there are not so many such games.
  • VR equipment technical requirements. The technical equipment of the computer must meet the minimum requirements for glasses.

It is possible that in the near future VR technology will involve not only the gaze, but also the speech and movements of the user in the immersion process. The gamer will be able to run, jump, rotate 360 degrees, just like his avatar in the game. This will allow the user to immerse himself in the world of computer games as much as possible. Already today, many models of VR glasses are synchronized with a joystick and keyboard, gesture control is available. Devices are being developed that can simultaneously transmit wind gusts, vibrations and odors. The list of accessories will gradually expand: new devices will be added to headphones and trackers and, of course, the list of VR games will increase.

But it will be later, and in the present industrial design studio KLONA will develop a model ergonomic and stylish VR glasses. Let’s create reality together!
